It was named in honor of Miss Susie Carson, co-founder of the Southport Historical Society (SHS). For more than forty years, members of the SHS have worked to collect, preserve, and share the history of Southport. The SHS created this scholarship out of a belief that an understanding of the past is the best foundation for building the future.
